Did MS Dhoni just speak in support of Mohammed Shami? Don’t think so

Mohammed Shami has been making headlines over the last week after his wife accused him of cheating and domestic abuse. The Indian pacer’s wife Hasin Jahan has even accused the bowler of “match-fixing” and “cheating the country” after suggesting Shami took money from a Pakistani girl.

These allegations came after she took to Facebook to share the screenshots of some alleged WhatsApp conversations between Shami and a number of women.

Shami has vehemently denied all the allegations, including the match-fixing, and stressed that his wife is not mentally stable.

Meanwhile, BCCI has put Shami’s contract on hold and his IPL participation is also under a cloud.

While most current Indian players have remained silent on the issue, news surfaced on Monday that former India captain MS Dhoni had spoken on Shami’s situation. By the next day, there were several reports doing the rounds, which claimed that Dhoni had supported Shami.

According to the reports, Dhoni said that he believed Shami can never go against India, but also suggested that people should not comment on a “personal matter.”

Most of these reports quoted MS Dhoni talking to a leading daily. However, the leading daily itself referenced a sports website quoting another daily in its report. Both the daily and website were not named in the report.

So did MS Dhoni speak in support of Mohammed Shami? But who did MS Dhoni speak to?

The former India captain is currently on break, after being rested for the Nidahas Trophy, and enjoying quality time with his family.

MS Dhoni is known as a very private person and rarely comments on controversial issues. Those who know Dhoni will confirm that he is not very reachable during his time off-the-field.

Dhoni has rarely reacted to any controversial matters in the past. That is the reason it’s very hard to believe that Dhoni reacted to a matter so complicated as Mohammed Shami’s.

The lack of a solid source in the news stories also suggests the same.

But if Dhoni did comment on whole Shami saga (the statement does sound diplomatic enough for him), it is certainly a rare occasion when he has reacted to something like that.
